Regulatory Reference

UR Z17 Rev.21 current; Rev.22 from 1 Jan 2027, Rev.23 from 1 Jan 2028; UR Z29 remote classification surveys; applicable class/flag acceptance.

Scope of Application

Identify activity first. UTM through RIT still requires separately approved/qualified thickness-measurement firm/personnel; certificate and transition rules determine validity.

Procedure / How to Complete It

  1. Define survey activity and attendance model.
  2. Verify activity-specific supplier approval.
  3. Obtain prior class/flag acceptance and limitations.
  4. For ROV IWS apply diver/ROV requirements; for UTM apply TM approval too.
  5. Maintain surveyor control, image/data quality and direct-examination fallback.
  6. Check current/future Z17 version and certificate validity.

Practical Example

A drone firm approved for close-up access is not automatically approved for UTM, ROV IWS or no-attendance remote survey.
