Operational Explanation

Parameters, sampling points, limits, frequencies, chemistry, conductivity/TDS and blowdown must follow the maker/supplier-specific programme incorporated in PMS/SMS; there are no universal six daily tests or 1,000 µS/cm limit.

Regulatory Reference

ISM Code 10, boiler maker manual, approved water-treatment supplier programme and PMS/SMS.

Scope of Application

Specific boiler design/pressure, feed/condensate system, chemical programme, sample point, temperature correction and test method.

Procedure / How to Complete It

  1. Use only installed-programme parameters, points and frequencies.
  2. Sample and temperature-correct by prescribed method.
  3. Compare trends and ship-specific limits before dosing/blowdown.
  4. Investigate abnormal trends before changing chemistry or blowdown.
  5. Do not add phosphate, alkalinity builder, scavenger or polymer outside the programme.

Practical Example

A conductivity rise is verified with correct sample point/method; the team investigates contamination before using blowdown minutes or dosing from another boiler.

What Typically Goes Wrong

Imposing six daily tests, declaring polyelectrolyte superior, using 1,000 µS/cm, 15 minutes/watch or universal numerical dosing.

FAQ

Which tests are daily?
Only those and at the frequency prescribed by the specific programme.
Is 1,000 µS/cm the limit?
Not universally; use the boiler/programme limit and method.
Is one treatment always superior?
No. Use only the approved chemistry for the plant.
